UPC-A or UPC-E?

UPC-A is the 12-digit barcode on products sold in the United States and Canada, and on many goods exported there. UPC-E is its short 8-digit form for small packs, and it only exists for UPC-A numbers with enough zeros to compress. Type the number exactly as it was issued.

The check digit

The last digit is worked out from the others. Leave it off and it's added for you; type it and it's checked, so a mistyped number shows up before you print it.

Is this a registered product number?

No. A barcode only draws a number; it doesn't make the number yours. Products sold through shops need numbers issued by GS1, which in India is GS1 India. Draw the barcode for a number you have been given.

Printing

The image is drawn at the standard size for printing at 300 dpi, with the white space scanners need on either side. Print it at 100%, don't stretch it, and scan a test print first.
